''The Logistics Associate Apprenticeship (LAA) is a non-craft and industry-led programme offered by MTU in Cork and TU Dublin, aimed at meeting the growing demand for logistics personnel. The apprenticeship is a proven way to attract new and enthusiastic talent into the business as it creates the perfect entry point into the logistics sector for:

  • School graduates
  • Career changers
  • Job seekers
  • Mature students

It also offers upskilling opportunities for the existing employees who wish to advance their careers in logistics.

 

Award: QQI Level 6 Higher Certificate in Logistics         

Duration: 2 years

Education providers:  MTU Cork & TU Dublin

Admission: Once a year, with classes starting in mid-September and resuming in May, bookings for September 2022 are currently open to employers and candidates 

 

Apprenticeship structure:

Apprentices are employed by a business for the duration of the programme and will receive a starting salary that is set by the employer (new recruits). 

One day a week apprentices are released by the company to attend lectures at the university where they will learn the academic side of the industries. Apprentices spend four days at the workplace where they are being trained (5 days during holiday breaks at university).

 

Logistics Apprentice profile:

An employer can place on the programme existing employees for an upskilling purpose or recruit external candidates.

When considering external candidates for a role, we can assist your business in sourcing candidates and advertising the apprenticeship position for free.

           

Key benefits of the logistics apprenticeship for employers:

  • Government -funded / tuition-free - reduces the training cost  
  • Apprenticeship employers are eligible for a €2,000 annual state funding for each employed apprentice (the grant applies to both existing employees and new recruits placed on the programme, a total of €4,000 per apprentice over 2 years of the LAA)

Currently, 85 companies are registered and approved by SOLAS for the LAA including companies such as Boston Scientific, Merck Group, GE Healthcare, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Manufacturing, BWG Foods, South Coast Logistics Kuehne+Nagel, DHL, DB Schenker, Coca Cola, DSV, DPD Ireland, Eucon, Musgrave, An Post, Hapag Lloyd, Amazon Web Services, Maersk to name a few.
